Terra Preta Review
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
Terra Preta Review seeks to unearth phenomenal writing. We welcome your submissions of poetry, translation, creative non-fiction, craft essays, literary reviews, art, collage, and photography. We accept work by writers and artists of all levels of experience, and are especially interested in submissions from members of marginalized communities - BIPOC, LGBTQI2+, womxn, refugees, immigrants, creators old and young, and those who are neurodiverse or differently-abled. We aren't accepting fiction at this time. Read our home page manifesto and check out a list of writers we love for a fuller sense of our interests.
We don't have calls for themed submissions at this time. We like fierce, vulnerable, honest work with strong craft and authentic voice. We like writing that's more interested in exploring questions than defining answers.
Terra Preta Review is published online sporadically. Our first issue was published in June 2019.
PLEASE NOTE: We are currently ONLY accepting submissions to the anthology In the Fray: An Anthology of Pandemic Creativity. We are on hiatus for submissions to the Terra Preta Review journal while we catch up on current journal and anthology submissions. We are deeply grateful for your patience while we take time to consider each submission with the attention and respect it deserves.
We only accept submissions through Submittable.
- You can submit for free, or make a contribution if you're able; we do offer expedited response for a minimum contribution, but please know that money does not guarantee acceptance. We're only allowed 100 free submissions each month, so if the free submission form isn't available, please check back at the start of the next month or you may wish to make a Tip Jar submission.
- We will consider previously published work for our pandemic anthology, with permission to reprint. If you are submitting previously published work, or if a submitted piece is accepted elsewhere, please confirm reprint rights with your publisher and add a note immediately to your submission.
- Simultaneous submissions are welcome, with immediate notification if your work is accepted elsewhere; please note that we do not issue refunds.
- We pay accepted contributors from submissions proceeds as well as making a donation to a social justice-related non-profit at the launch of each edition. You can see how proceeds are shared here.
Accepted work will be published online at terrapretareview.org and featured on our Instagram feed and Facebook page. We retain first North American serial rights; feel free to reprint it elsewhere with attribution. The In the Fray anthology will be published as a perfect-bound book with selected pieces published online.
